Prime Minister David Cameron visited the former Kingsgate House on Victoria Street on Thursday 18th October 2012
The Kingsgate House development situated on Victoria Street designed by Lynch Architects, comprises two new buildings; The Zig Zag Building a 190,000 sq ft office building over 12 floors with a staggered façade; and Kings Gate a residential building comprising of 100 apartments. Both buildings will provide a new enhanced retail offer with 45,000 sq ft of space, together with considerable improvements to the public realm benefitting the wider Victoria area. The estimated completion of the buildings is [summer 2015] with the construction phase estimated to support 2,500 jobs.
During the visit the Prime Minister met with three of the candidates from the Land Securities London Employment Strategy.
The London Employment Strategy which was launched last year is an innovative approach based on partnership working to support those furthest away from the job market into employment and training - we will be delivering our pre-employment into Construction Programme over the life-time of the build.
The Prime Minster met with candidates Kali Hagenstede, Oleg Stepanov and Israel Harriott who was the ‘Highest Achiever' at this years Land Securities Employment Awards.
To date the Employment Strategy| has;
•· Trained 204 individuals
•· 83 previously unemployed into jobs
•· 35 started NVQs
•· 6 into Apprenticeships
Prime Minister David Cameron is quoted as saying "already the changes we are making to the planning system are having an impact, with Land Securities giving the go-ahead to a major multi-million pound investment, supporting thousands of jobs in our construction industry. No one should be in any doubt about our determination to make sure Britain, and the British people, rise in the 21st century"
