Land Securities supports Westminster Boating Base

Land Securities supports Westminster Boating Base

25 September 2014

This autumn, Land Securities partnered with Tuckerman, Savills and Westminster East Rotary Club to support Westminster Boating Base (WBB), a charity dedicated to supporting youth sailing in SW1. The partnership provided a new fleet of RS Venture dinghies to the charity, designed to help the WBB develop and to continue to provide experiences and opportunities for young people to support their personal and social development through participation in watersports. The fleet was launched at a reception on 17th September at the Boating Base, where guests had a chance to see the youngsters and dinghies in action on the Thames. This was a phenomenal event for WBB’s youngsters.

The WBB is dedicated to supporting the goals of aspiring young sailors, but also to inspiring people of all ages to try something new. The range of dedicated classes at WBB include courses and training for children and adults, alike, and with some Kayakers celebrating their 90th birthdays this year there’s no excuse to not get involved!

Local support and sponsorship keep WBB’s mission to deliver these watersports courses and training sessions to the local community alive. Whether through participation in courses or through donations, this local funding allows the charity to run the centre while volunteers donate their valuable time to the WBB cause.

Still, there are more opportunities for local businesses to get involved. One of the best ways to support WBB is by hiring their beautiful event space overlooking the Thames. It offers a fantastic space for small to medium sized events and presentations, so it’s perfect for any size gathering, and for those after a larger event, WBB even offers catering for a seamless evening. Above everything else, hosting an event at WBB offers what few event locations do, a story to tell guests so that they can build on the foundation and share in the future of the local community.

Ben Ridgwell, Portfolio Director at Land Securities comments:

“A huge part of what we do at Land Securities is focused in and around SW1, so it’s important to us that we do not just invest in the area through new buildings but also by helping to make a positive difference to the local community. It was great to see the Westminster Boating Base youngsters in action on the Thames last week, and it’s exactly this kind of local community excitement that we hope will inspire more local businesses to support the charity.”
