Land Securities Sponsors Exciting New Employment Initiative
1 March 2013
In September 2011, Land Securities unveiled its innovative Employment Strategy which ring-fences jobs and offers training opportunities in construction across its £5.27 billion London property portfolio.
Since then the scheme has secured construction jobs for 105 Londoners – across Land Securities developments, including 20 Fenchurch Street a partnership with Canary Wharf Group.
A year on, Land Securities commitment is to extend its successful Employment Strategy across the entire London portfolio and to take its learnings from the construction training into the facilities management and retail sectors as well.
After extensive research into how this would work best, in December 2012 Land Securities officially joined forces with Circle Sports to deliver an exciting employment pilot.
Circle Sports is a social enterprise which uses sports and retail to help young people and the wider community get the best out of themselves. The charity has three main ways of achieving this: the Circle Sports Store in Westminster which provides young people with retail experience; the Circle 13 Course which delivers accredited training in employability skills; and Circle Cycles where young people renovate and sell on bikes.
By partnering with Circle Sports – who already work closely with Westminster City Council and the Department of Work & Pensions – Land Securities is able to help ten disadvantaged young people gain the skills they need to enter employment. The pilot programme started before Christmas and our recruits are now underway with their training, with a view to them undertaking work experience placements in the Facilities Management sector with Land Securities Service Providers in April 2013.
